Thirumalida Mahadeva Temple, Mallapally
The Thirumalita Mahadeva Temple in Mallappally is situated on the banks of the Manimala River. The main deity worshipped in this temple is Lord Shiva. This temple is unique and different in some ways. The Lord is enshrined in the temple facing the western side of the river. It is believed that this temple is self-erected on the earth, which is why many people worship it. The sanctum sanctorum of this temple is often compared to the sanctum sanctorum of Kashi Vishwanath.
There is a common story associated with this temple. A woman from a low caste came here to collect grass. When she hit a stone with a sickle, she was surprised to see blood. The local rulers were informed. It was a miracle, and a temple of Lord Shiva was discovered. Since the name of the woman who first identified the temple was Thirumali, the temple is named after her.
