A panchayat is an association of elected representatives to administer the affairs of panchayat raj institutions. For a gram panchayat, it is the main committee that implements the decisions of the gram sabha and conducts day-to-day administration. The main components of a panchayat are:President: He is the head of the panchayat. Presides over the meetings and supervises the overall functioning of the panchayat.Vice President: Performs duties in the absence of the President.Ward Members: People's representatives elected from each ward of the panchayat.Standing Committees: These are sub-committees formed for matters such as finance, development, welfare, health and education to facilitate decision-making.

History of Grama Panchayat
